If your home address or phone number pops up when anyone searches for your name using Google, you may request the company to remove such results. The free service that will allow you to do this is Google Results about you. It’s not something many people know about, but in February 2026, Google said that over 10 million people had already used it.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to remove your personal data from Google using this service, how to deal with your phone number and address, and what to do with passports and other IDs.
We’ve also added the limits, since there are a few things Google won’t remove.
What does Google Results about you actually do
Google Results about you is a separate section of your Google account where you provide your name and all the data you wish to check, including phone numbers and home addresses. Then, Google will periodically check Search for any results with your data.
If you want a result gone, you tap a button and send a removal request.
It started with phone numbers, home addresses and email addresses. In February 2026, Google added government ID numbers, with passport, driver’s licence and Social Security numbers as examples. That part went live in the US first, and Google said it was working on other regions.
One thing to understand early. Google removes the link from its results. It does not delete the page. If a website still shows your number, people can reach it through the site itself or through other search engines.
What Google will and won’t take down
Google reviews every request against its own policy. It basically works like this:
- It can approve results that show your phone number, home address or email address.
- It usually won’t remove pages from government or education websites or from newspapers, because it treats those as useful to the public.
- It won’t remove info you control yourself, like your own social media profile or a blog you own. You need to edit or delete that on the site.
- Sometimes it removes a page only for searches that include your name. The page can still appear for other searches.
If you’re under 18, or you’re sending a request for someone else, Google asks you to use its detailed removal request form instead of the tool.
Steps to remove phone number from Google search
- First of all, open the Google app on your phone, click your profile picture, and select Results about you. If you’re on a computer, go to the My Activity section of your Google account.
- Tap Get started. Next, type your name and phone number. You can specify several numbers and a nickname or maiden name if needed.
- Turn on notifications. Google says you should hear back within a few hours about whether anything matched.
- Open the ‘To review’ tab and tap a result. You’ll see the website and which detail it shows.
- Tap Request to remove. You’ll get a confirmation email.
- Check the Removal Requests tab later. Each request shows as in progress, approved, denied or undone.
You can also do it straight from Search. Look up your name with your city, tap the three dots next to a result, and choose Remove the result, then pick the option saying it shows your personal info, then contact info. If the page shows an old number or a nickname, type it exactly as it appears on the page. Google asks for that.
How to remove my address from Google search results
Addresses are usually the harder part, because they sit on so many directory and listing pages. The steps are the same as above, but add every address you’ve had, including old ones. Old addresses stay on those pages for years.
If you’re wondering how to remove my address from Google search results without sending ten separate requests, here’s a small help: one request covers one page, and you only need to enter one type of contact info in the form, even if that page shows both your phone and your address. You don’t need to file twice for the same page.
A normal case is an old business directory or a forum post with your flat number on it. Your own LinkedIn page is different, since Google expects you to change that yourself.
When a request is approved, Google says the page usually stops showing for every search. Sometimes it stops only for searches with your name in them.
How to remove passport number from Google search.
Since the February 2026 update, Google Results about you can also be checked for passport, driver’s licence and Social Security numbers. New users are asked to add ID numbers after their contact details. If you already use the tool, you just add them from inside it. When Google finds a page, the process is the same: review, then request to remove.
There’s a catch. The ID option launched in the US first. If you’re somewhere else and you can’t see it yet, it probably hasn’t reached your account. In that case, send the page link through Google’s detailed removal request form for personal info and say which number is showing. Google reviews it case by case, so we can’t tell you it will always be approved.
When a passport number appears in search, it’s usually because a scan or form got posted somewhere. It might be an old travel booking PDF, a visa agent’s page or a college list. So the real answer to how to remove a passport number from a Google search has two parts: ask Google to hide the result and ask whoever owns the page to delete the file. If you think someone has used your details, tell your bank and the passport office as well. Hiding a search result won’t undo that.
If a scan of your ID is sitting on a site and you can’t reach the owner, you can talk to us at Repute Matters. We wouldn’t promise anything before looking at the page, but we can tell you quickly what’s realistic.
| What’s showing? | Where to start? | Good to know: |
| Phone number | Results about you, then request to remove | The page must be one you don’t control |
| Home address | Same tool, add old addresses too. | One request per page |
| Passport or other ID number | ID option in the tool, or the removal form | The ID option began in the US. |
| Your own profile or blog | Edit or delete it on the site. | Google won’t remove what you control |
What happens after you send a request
You’ll get an email confirming the request and another when it’s reviewed. Google says there can be a short gap between approval and the result disappearing, so check a few hours after approval.
If it’s denied, the reason shows in the tool. If you change your mind, there’s an Undo button. That doesn’t promise the page will come back, though. If someone else got the same page removed, it stays off.
Getting the source page fixed.
Hiding a result is only half the work. To really remove personal information from Google’s reach and from the web, the website owner has to delete the page or the detail. Send them a polite email with the exact page link and ask them to delete that specific information. You should look at their contact or privacy page to find an email address.
When chasing, every website gets tiring.
We’d say try Google’s tool first, since it’s free and does the job for many people. But if the same number is on ten different sites, writing to each owner gets old fast. That’s the part we handle at Repute Matters.
With our Remove Private Info service, we remove your addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, financial information and other personal data from public records, social networks and the internet as a whole. First of all, we do a search for your information in order to make sure that we find it, and then we start removing it. The first stage will take a couple of weeks, but we continue monitoring after that. And one thing for sure: not all the copies will disappear because some of them, such as cached pages, can be saved for a while.
Some habits that will help you avoid this problem:
- Keep monitoring actively so Google informs you about new web pages.
- Do not use your phone number in public comments or forms.
- When you send someone a passport copy, write the purpose and date across it.
Conclusion
Google Results about you are the easiest place to begin. Use it to remove phone number from Google search, to work out how to remove my address from Google search results, and, where the option is available to you, to learn how to remove the passport number from Google search. Hiding a link is different from deleting the page, so write to the site owner as well.
If you’d rather hand it over, our team at Repute Matters is based in New Delhi, and you can reach us through our contact page.
FAQs
Q1. How do I remove personal information from Google?
Set up Google Results about you, add your name and details, and request removal for any result that shows them. For pages outside the tool, use Google’s removal request form.
Q2. Can I remove phone number from Google search without logging in?
Yes. Google says if you don’t want to sign in, you can use its detailed removal request form.
Q3. Will my info disappear from the internet once Google approves?
No. Google only stops showing the result. The page stays live until the site owner deletes it.
Q4. Why was my request denied?
Common reasons are that the page belongs to a government body, school or newspaper, or that it’s something you control yourself. The reason shows in the tool.
Q5. I can’t see the ID option. What should I do about my passport number?
It started in the US, so it may not have reached you yet. Use the removal request form with the page link, and ask the site owner to delete the file.
Q6. Do old addresses count?
Yes. Add them all, because old addresses often stay on directory pages for years.
Q7. How long until the result is gone?
Google says to check a few hours after approval. Reviews themselves can take longer, and you can follow the status in the tool.
